Tale of a Trend is all set to take off to next destination i.e. Kalamkari! Stay glued to your seats and enjoy this pleasurable journey of craftitude with us! The elegant ensembles for this theme have been curated by students of Fashion Design and Technology  Department, JCC, Rohini under the mentorship of Ms. Renu Malik  (Head of the Department).

In this post, let’s explore the everlasting allure of this ancient art form of Andhra Pradesh, that encapsulates storytelling through painting on textiles. The word Kalamkari has its origin in Persian words qalam (pen) and kari (craftsmanship). This exquisite hand painted or block printed traditional cotton textile is crafted with vegetable dyes.

Shrikalahasti and Masulipatnam are two towns exhibiting different style forms of this handcrafted luxury.  Shrikalahasti narrates religious and mythological stories while Masulipatnam echoes secular philosophy and endorses narratives inspired from nature like tree of life, flowers, peacocks etc.

So dear readers, get ready to gaze this timeless tale of tradition in contemporary styling!
